The following are attorneys that will take cases relating to firearms.

MOC has not necessarily officially employed any of these attorneys. While many of these attorneys may offer a free consultation, you should expect to pay them should you choose to employ them. If you know a lawyer that you think should be on this list, send us their contact information and we’ll be happy to give them a call.

Dean is Michigan Open Carry, Inc.’s corporate counsel.

He was “first chair” in:

  • Capital Area District Library v. Michigan Open Carry, Inc.
  • Michigan Open Carry, Inc. v. Clio Area Schools
  • Michigan Open Carry, Inc. & Michigan Gun Owners v. Grand Rapids-Kent County Convention/Arena Authority & SMG.

Additionally, Dean has fought cases for persons ticketed for “open carry” on several occasions and got the cases quickly dismissed.

Jim has represented Michigan Gun Owners in cases such as Michigan Gun Owners v Capital Area District Library and Michigan Gun Owners v. Ann Arbor Public Schools.

He has also handled open carry criminal cases such as People v Combs.

Paul is an adjunct professor at Grand Valley State University as well has being in private practice.

Mr. Ledford has been actively involved in representing gun related and self-defense cases in Michigan since 2001, including defense-related fatal shooting cases, cases involving brandishing and pointing a gun as a defense, and so-called “road rage” self-defense cases.

Paul is a Life Member of the NRA, and is a referral attorney for various self-defense insurance programs, including both the USCCA and NRA, as well as others.  Mr. Ledford is also a member of the USCCA’s Legal Critical Response Team attorney service.

Steve is a law professor at Cooley Law School as well as running his own private practice.  Additionally, he is on the board of directors for Michigan Coalition of Responsible Gun Owners as well as their corporate counsel.  In the past, he has won civil payouts in 42 USC 1983 cases such as Haman v. City of Warren.
